Here are some of the imagesfrom today’s gathering at Whole Foods Market Kahului to celebrate Roxanne Tiffin winning the INGREDIENTS “Farm to Plate” photo contest.
Whole Foods Market Kahului announced today that our own Roxanne Tiffin is the winner of their INGREDIENTS “Farm to Plate” photo contest. Roxanne’s winning photo featured all locally grown produce, including cherry tomoatoes, Maui onions and Evonuk Farms herbs, mixed with Hawaiian sea salt and Oils of Aloha Macadamia Nut Oil, on its way to the oven.
Whole Foods Market Kahului is holding its Community Support Day this Saturday, July 24th, where 5% of the day’s sales is donated to help a participating nonprofit organization. Roxanne will be on hand to accept her prize, which includes a Whole Foods reusable bag, a gift certificate to the Seascape Ma’alaea Restaurant from the Maui Ocean Center and a DVD of the film INGREDIENTS Hawai‘i, highlighting locally-based agriculture. Samples of the winning entrée will be available.
Congratulations Roxanne!
Yesterday’s Slow Food Maui Taste Education event at Ali’i Kula Lavender during their Family Fun Day was a great success.
We brought awareness to the differences between imported vs. locally grown or raised food, not just in terms of sustainability and the carbon footprint involved, but in the flavors you can only get from food that comes fresh from your local sources.
Becky Speere, corporate Chef at the Maui Cattle Company, outdid herself with some wonderful burgers that were part of a tasting plate with locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Also on hand were Susan Campbell, Dania Katz and Roxanne Tiffin.

Tasting plate with Maui Cattle Co. burgers and locally grown fruits and vegetables at the Slow Food Maui Taste Education event, at Ali'i Kula Lavender.
We sold 30 plates at $5.00 each, had $12.00 in donations and signed up 12 people. We also have 2 mew members who want to be involved. In addition, O’o Farm offered to host Slow Food Maui at our next event.
It’s likely that Taste Education will become a signature event for Slow Food Maui.
Come see us at the Slow Food Maui information table 6:00 p.m. Saturday July 10 to 6:00 a.m. Sunday July 11, during the 2010 Relay For Life in Central/South Maui at the War Memorial Stadium.
Join our very own Dania Katz as she celebrates 10 years survivorship.
